Digital Impact Lead (Volunteer)

Diani, Kenya | 2–6 months | On-site

We’re recruiting a Volunteer Digital Impact Lead to run our pilot digital learning lab in a public secondary school in Diani, focusing on Grades 10–12.

The pilot is founder-funded and designed to move quickly, learn fast, and generate the evidence we need to scale responsibly across more schools.

Project initial goals

  • A pilot computer lab set-up and running in a local secondary school
  • Learners in Grades 10–12 demonstrating progress in:
    • Basic computer literacy, fluency in Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations
    • Using Khan Academy to support core studies
  • A clear, credible evidence base for the next phase (impact notes, learner/teacher quotes, simple baseline-and-follow-up results, and media assets)

What you’ll do

  • Confirm a pilot partner school and agree a practical operating approach
  • Coordinate the setup of connectivity and devices (pilot-funded)
  • Support the teacher-led onboarding into basic computer and internet usage
  • Maintain a simple accountability approach with the school for ongoing learner participation
  • Run lightweight measurement and documentation so the programme can scale

Requirements (must-have)

  • Comfortable working high-autonomy, with weekly 1:1s for support
  • Strong organisation and follow-through (clear weekly updates)
  • Confident engaging stakeholders (teachers and students) in a school environment
  • Able to document progress clearly (written updates + basic photos/video where appropriate)
  • Safeguarding-first mindset and professionalism working with young people

Nice-to-have

  • Experience in education, youth programmes, NGO operations, or international development
  • Basic monitoring/evaluation or research experience
  • Media/content experience (interviews, short video, storytelling)

  • This role is focused on the pilot and evidence capture
  • Fundraising and partnerships are part of the next phase, informed by what we learn in the pilot
  • On-site presence is expected for the first three months; hybrid is possible after that once the pilot is stable

  • Q: Will I be staying on-site at Skippers?
  • A: No, our volunteer flat is across the street it’s about a 2-3 minute walk, same facilities available (Gym, Coworking, Pool, Shared kitchen), different room.
  • Q: Will I be able to do a full-time remote job alongside this?
  • A: No, this will need a good bit of hands on work, if you were freelancing part-time it would be realistic;
  • Q: Will you feed me?
  • A: Yes you will get breakfast and 12 meal boxes and 2 pizzas a week.
