Digital Impact – Empowering Diani’s Next Generation

Digital Impact @ Skippers

Empowering Diani’s Next Generation by bridging the digital divide in secondary schools.

Background

Diani is emerging as a global destination for digital nomads. Yet, just minutes away from our coliving and it’s high-speed fibre internet, most local secondary students are graduating without basic computer literacy.

In a world that has moved online, especially in a country which has strong internet infrastructure it is a tragedy that these students are being left behind.

Not for a lack of talent, but for a lack of tools and support.

Our Purpose

We believe that the benefits of the digital revolution should be shared with the community that hosts us. Our “Digital Futures” program is built on three core beliefs:

  • Access is an Equalizer: A computer and an internet connection can turn any classroom into a global window of opportunity.

  • Sustainable Impact: We don’t just want to drop off hardware; we want to build labs, train the teachers, and ensure the infrastructure lasts.

  • Community Responsibility: As a coliving space, we want to be more than guests in Kenya. We want to partner in its growth.

  • Sustainable Community Integration: Fostering a reciprocal relationship where our guests and the Diani community grow together through shared knowledge

Guided Digital Education

  • Core Competency Training: Mastering the essential digital tools required for modern university and professional environments.

  • High-Growth Skillsets: Introducing students to logic, creative software, and the mechanics of the digital marketplace.

  • Institutional Capacity Building: Empowering local educators to lead digital instruction, ensuring the program’s longevity within the school system.

Infrastructure & Access

  • Sourcing: Procuring refurbished, high-quality laptops and tablets;

  • Connectivity: Providing reliable internet and power solutions to overcome local infrastructure challenges;

  • Environment: Creating safe, secure, and ergonomic learning spaces within our partner schools and prioritising schools where the digital divide is widest;
